The game that began the saga, Mega Man on the original Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). As the first ever Mega Man title, most of the game's aspects are fairly basic, with Mega Man's abilities limited to firing his Mega Buster and jumping - no slide move or charged shot are available. In this first installment, Mega Man's mission is to take down the evil Dr Wily and his six Robot Masters. You'll have to battle through six areas where the Robot Masters hide out before tackling Dr Wily's castle for the final showdown. Once each of the six bosses are defeated, Mega Man will draw their energy into his body, creating extra special weapons for his arsenal, each boss has a certain weakness to a particular weapon. No energy tanks are available, making this game a very tough one indeed.
STORY
In the year 200X, master robot designer Dr. Thomas Light, and his assistant, Dr. Wily, worked on a project to create human-like robots with advanced intelligence. They created a robot, their first success, which was named Proto Man. Proto Man was a robot that was human like in all ways. After Proto Man, Dr. Light made two housecleaning/laboratory robots, Rock and Roll. He and Wily then build six more of the Robot Masters to be used for industrial purposes: Cut Man, whose first purpose was to cut down trees for loggers; Guts Man, whose purpose was to pick up huge rocks for building houses; Ice Man, who was meant to be used for Arctic exploration; Bomb Man, who was meant to open blocked caves; Fire Man, who was used to make fuel by burning logs; and Elec Man, to provide inexpensive electrical power. Mega Man Powered-Up features two additional robots who were not in the original: Time Man and Oil Man. The project was a great success, and for his work on it, Light was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics.
Around this time, Dr. Wily grew envious of Light, and stole the prototype. This robot, named Proto Man (originally called Blues in the Japanese version), was in danger of having his energy generator going critical. Wily gave him a nuclear energy supply to extend his life, and learned much about creating robots from studying his design (likely also learning the means to reprogram Light's robots).
Wily sneaked into Light's lab one night and reprogrammed the robots, but he failed to reprogram Rock and Roll (who still operated on an earlier system) and made his getaway. When Light found out that Wily had escaped with the Robot Masters, it was too late, as Wily had already sent his new robotic army out to conquer the city.
Rock, having a strong sense of justice, volunteered to be converted into a fighting robot to stop Dr. Wily and his minions and restore peace to the city.

| Thunder Beam | This weapon fires out three large bolts of electricity in different directions from Mega Man. It can be used to hit enemies who fly at you from above. |
| Ice Slasher | This ice weapon fires out a large ice block which will fly across the screen until it hits a target. The projectile also has the ability to fly through some enemies and continue on to hit other targets. |
| Fire Storm | The fire weapon will shoot out large flame balls that will scorch any enemies it hits. It can fly through several enemies at once and will disappear once it reaches a far point from Mega Man. |
| Hyper Bomb | Mega Man will throw out a bomb that will land a short distance from him. After a few seconds it will explode, creating a small explosion that will damage any enemies nearby. |
| Super Arm | This weapon will only work if a large boulder or large block is nearby. To use it, walk up to the block and press fire. Mega Man will lift the block and you can then throw it at an enemy to cause damage. |

Here are some Glitches, Secrets & Easter Eggs found in this game:
GLITCHES
There is a point in the Iceman stage where you try to get a 1-up but often miss it. When you drop down to the next screen (the one before the Big Eye), use your magnet beam and try to climb your way up and try to hop onto the offscreen platform where the 1-up is supposed to be. The moment you step on it, the screen will glitch and show you falling to the screen below and avoiding the Big Eye in the process.
SECRETS
When using a weapon that goes through an enemy, press the Select button (this pauses the game with out bringing up the weapon menu) when the weapon is making contact with the enemy. While the game is paused this way the enemy will continue to flash. When the flashing has stopped, press the Select button again to un-pause the game and the weapon will 'hit' the enemy again causing more damage.
You can do this trick repeatidly with many of the bosses making them very easy to beat.

As Mega Man confronts the new robots, Dr Light equips him with three special items along the way to make his quest easier. Improving the overall look and gameplay, Mega Man II was a sure hit and an instant classic in the series.
Intro Scene...
In the year of 200X, a super robot named Megaman was created. Dr Light created Megaman to stop the evil desires of Dr Wily. However, after his defeat, Dr Wily created eight of his own robots to counter Megaman.
STORY
Mega Man 2 takes place precisely one year after the original Mega Man, which was set in the year 200X.
Just when everyone thought they could live in peace and that an age of prosperity had dawned upon them, the evil Dr. Wily who had threatened the world once already, revealed that he had built a new fortress and an army of robotic henchmen, led by eight new Robot Masters of his design. He unleashed them on the world for revenge against the world's hero Mega Man. Once again, the populace called on Mega Man to stop the chaos before the world was engulfed in the flames of destruction.
With the aid of his creator Dr. Light, Mega Man crushed the eight new Robot Masters and then set out for Wily's new fortress, where he had to face more creations and Wily himself. In the final fight, Wily morphed into an alien, but Mega Man defeated it and discovered that it was merely a hologram. After the scientist once again begged for mercy, Mega Man let Wily go, then took a long walk to think things through and returned home.

Here are some Glitches, Secrets & Easter Eggs found in this game:
At the Stage Select Screen, hold down the A + B buttons and choose a boss. When the next screen comes up that displays the boss and his name, the stars in the background will turn into birds.
During the boss fight with Airman, use Item 1 so that the platform is created on the far left side. Jump on the platform, and you'll notice that it already becomes glitchy by not moving the Air attacks created by Airman. If you're in the correct position on the platform, as you go past the enterance to this room, it will act as though you just entered a door, and push you through the right hand side of the room. For some reason, this ends up being Stage 2 of Dr Wily's fortress, except that now all backgrounds/platforms are made up out of the backgrounds/platform textures of Airman's stage. IE they will be made up from clouds/skies.
In some areas of the game, if you see an enemy just on the edge of the screen and you move to the left then back, it will disapear and you won't have to fight it.
This glitch occurs while fighting HeatMan, and you need to have Bubble Lead weapon (to make it easier). In one of HeatMan's attacks, he tosses three small flames at you. When he does this, use the Bubble Lead twice so that two bubbles are on the screen along with HeatMan's fire sparks. Before the Bubble Lead hits HeatMan, jump towards the gate you entered the room in and as you touch the gate, get hit by one of HeatMan's flames. If done correctly, the gate will open and and transport you to the beginning Wily Stage 1.
Wily Stage 1 will not have its normal color scheme, but it will have the color scheme and tileset of HeatMan's stage instead. Once you manage to get here, you will be mysteriously hit by something invisible until you die. However, you will start at the beginning of this stage, and you will no longer get hit.
If you repeatedly pause the game, enemy shots will pass directly through Megaman.
Select Quick Boomerang. Then shoot only 7 at a time. Press start and select Quick Boomerang again. It won't waste! Do the same thing with Metal Blade except only shoot 3 at a time and with Bubble Lead only 1 at a time.

Dr Wily just doesn't know when to quit. After tricking Dr Light into believing that his evil days were behind him, Dr Wily developed a new special robot designed especially for war. In his usual evil ways, he also created eight brand-new Robot Masters to finish Mega Man off once and for all. This time it seemed that Dr Wily would surely succeed in world domination, but Mega Man - along with his new robotic K9 partner Rush - had other things in mind, it was time Dr Wily was shut down for good. Most of the game is relatively difficult, you'll probably find certain sections quite hard, so be ready for a challenge. This time Mega Man can slide along the ground (Down + A), this move can also act as a ducking technique.
STORY
In the year 200X Dr. Wily claims to have reformed and works with Dr. Light on a project to build a peace-keeping robot named "Gamma." However, the eight Robot Masters that the two scientists had designed in order to help maintain peace go berserk and make off with the eight power crystals. Once again, Mega Man is called into action, but this time with a trusty canine companion named "Rush," to go after them and retrieve the crystals, located on various mining planets in space.
Proto Man (DRN-000; known as "Blues" in Japan), Dr. Light's first creation, also finally returns after a year in hiding to "train" Mega Man by dueling him in various locations throughout his journey, but if Mega Man comes out the winner, he will open up the path forward to him. Proto Man disguises himself as "Break Man" prior to the Dr. Wily Stages (otherwise he is undisguised).
Upon defeating the main Robot Masters, four new levels open up, which are new versions of the levels they replace. Overall, these new levels are similar to the levels they replace, except much harder, for instance the new Spark Man level, features a fall down a spike-lined shaft. In these levels, Mega Man is confronted by new robots called Doc Robots (one about half-way through the level, the other at the end), which take on the abilities of the Robot Masters of Mega Man 2.
After Mega Man is victorious over the eight Robot Masters and the Doc Robots, he confronts and battles "Break Man". After the duel, he teleports out and returns to the lab, where Dr. Light tells him that Wily has stolen Gamma and, of course, that Mega Man must pursue him immediately before he can wreak havoc with the massive war machine. Mega Man goes to Wily's new Skull Compound and, after defeating some new foes (including several clones of himself), he faces Gamma, who is under the control of Dr. Wily. Upon defeating him, the fortress begins to destabilize. Parts of the ceiling fall on Mega Man and Wily, but a red figure descends through the dust and rescues Mega Man. Wily has seemingly met his demise.
When he awakes, he finds himself in Dr. Light's lab. Dr. Light explains that he found Mega Man lying there when he came in. He then wonders aloud who brought Mega Man there, but before he has even finished his third word, a whistle splits the air, leaving no doubt in either Mega Man or Dr. Light's mind who was responsible for saving Mega Man. It appears that Proto Man is not evil after all.
Dr. Light takes Mega Man to a work table where he shows him a notebook that is filled with designs of Proto Man, confirming that Proto Man was the prototype master robot, and Mega Man's "brother", so to speak.

Here are some Glitches, Secrets & Easter Eggs found in this game:
Normally, to obtain the Rush Jet, you must get it by defeating Needle Man. Instead you can go to Shadow Man's stage and defeat him so that you acquire the Shadow Blade from him. Then, go to any other level and find a weapon energy refill capsule. Don't pick it up yet. Instead, open up the pause menu and highlight the Shadow Blades. Then press Right on the D-Pad, then press start to unpause the game and you should now have an empty weapon energy meter. Grab the weapon energy capsule and you will now fill up the empty energy meter. This energy meter is the Rush Jet. You can now summon the Rush Jet anytime.
In order for this trick to work, you must have Spark Shooter (SparkMan's weapon), but must not have defeated ShadowMan, the Robot Master who gives it to you. Go into the menu and point to Spark Shooter. While the cursor is on Spark Shooter, press right on the D-Pad. Rush's picture will appear instead of Spark Shooter's picture. Select this, and you will now have Rush Marine with an empty meter. Now, go pick up a weapon capsule or weapon pellet to fill the empty meter with. Once it has a little bit of energy, the Rush Marine option will now permanently appear on your weapons list, even when you deselect it
On controller 2: Push and hold Up and A.
NOTE: Does not work on all enemies, but it does work on almost all bosses.
Press ''right'' on controller 2 and mega man can jump much higher and walk across the bottom of pits. For invincibility have mega man jump into a pit, then press ''right'' on controller 2. Wait for the energy bar to go black and jump out of the pit. Mega Man will be invincible as long as he does not obtain any energy. Once invincible, the arm cannon no longer works but weapons obtained from bosses do.

Intro Scene...
AD 20XX. Household robots Rock and Roll were created by master robot designer, Dr Light, and were enjoying their peaceful days. Then one day, the industrial robots all over the world went on a rampage and the world fell into total chaos. Dr Light quickly realized that mad scientist, Dr Wily, was behind the nefarious deed but he didn't know what to do. Rock, having a strong sense of justice, volunteered to be converted into a fighting robot. Thus the super robot Mega Man was born. Mega Man shattered Dr Wily's plans three times and world peace has been maintained so far.... but history repeats itself. Dr Cossack, a mysterious scientist, has invented eight powerful robots and sent then after Mega Man. Mega Man starts for the battle again, this time equipped with the powerful new Mega Buster!!
STORY
In the year 20XX, one year after the events of the Gamma Project and Dr. Wily's overtaking of it (and Wily's supposed "demise"), Dr. Light received a letter from a mysterious Russian scientist named Dr. Cossack claiming that he was the superior robot engineer in all the world. Cossack stated further that he would unleash his army of robots upon the world as a "test" for Light to see which of them was the best. Of course, Light would not stand for this, so once again, peace in the world was shattered, and Mega Man was called forth from his search for Wily (whom they had yet to find) to go after Cossack's Robot Masters.
This time, however, Dr. Light had an upgrade ready for Mega Man's Buster. He had modified it into what he calls the "Mega Buster," which allows him to charge/focus energy into powerful plasma shots.
Upon defeating the eight Robot Masters designed by Cossack, Mega Man makes his way to the scientist's icy fortress and fights his way through the stronghold and ultimately defeats him, but before he delivers the coup de grace, Proto Man teleports in with Cossack's daughter, Kalinka. Dr. Wily had kidnapped Dr. Cossack's daughter and forced him to build an army of robots to fight Mega Man in order to win his daughter back. Now that his plan had been revealed by Proto Man, Dr. Wily stepped out of the shadows and Mega Man gave chase to Wily's lair, where he fights through the newly built Skull Castle, and this time defeats Wily, though he again does not manage to capture him.

The worst thing has happened... Dr Light has been kidnapped, and the culprit appears to be Protoman, Mega Man's robotic brother. He also created eight Robot Masters to prevent Mega Man from rescuing Dr Light, but this time Mega Man will gain additional help from Beat, a flying bird-robot once you find all the special MEGAMANV icons hidden throughout the game. It's hard to believe Protoman capable of commiting this crime, but is it really him? Below you'll find a boss chart, weapons, special items and Rush ability descriptions, as well as the location of all the special Beat icons and the final passcode.
Intro Scene...
In the year 20XX AD... A vicious army of robots is bent on destroying the world!! And behind this destruction is... Protoman!?
STORY
In the year 20XX, after a brief period of peace, an army led by what appears to be Proto Man storms throughout the world wreaking havoc. One day, Dr. Light turns up missing (he had been kidnapped by "Proto Man") and the only clues left behind to Mega Man are a brief note from Proto Man and his signature yellow scarf. Mega Man wonders why his brother is doing this, but with little choice left except to save the doctor, he sets out to stop the madness before it gets out of hand.
This time, his Mega Buster has been upgraded slightly thanks to the help of their new ally, Dr. Cossack, and also, Cossack has created a bird friend by the name of "Beat" to join the cause. Cossack serves as Mega Man's mentor since Dr. Light is in captivity and helps him where needed during this quest.
Once Mega Man defeats the eight Robot Masters who are controlling Proto Man's army, he gains access to his base. After a long, grueling journey through Proto Man's fortress, Mega Man is stopped by a piercing whistle - distinctly more off-key than usual. Proto Man arrives and attacks Mega Man, but both are stopped by another, more in-tune whistle. The real Proto Man appears between them and reveals Mega Man's adversary to be the impostor Dark Man. After Mega Man defeats this enemy, Dr. Wily appears, fleeing to his newly designed castle where Dr. Light is being held prisoner.
Mega Man fights and defeats Wily. He then frees Dr. Light. The victory is short lived: the entire ceiling collapses, but Mega Man raises his arms and holds the entire massive weight, keeping it from crushing Dr. Light and Wily. Wily takes his chance and escapes. Mega Man cannot move from the force that is bearing down on him, all of his strength spent on keeping Dr. Light and himself from being crushed. Dr. Light can't save himself, as Mega Man and the ceiling are both blocking the way.
Just when it seems Mega Man is about to slip, Proto Man's whistle splits the air. A section of the ceiling is blown off, and Mega Man and Dr. Light waste no time in escaping as the fortress explodes. Outside, Mega Man and Dr. Light watch as Wily's saucer flees and the fortress begins to burn. Their timely savior, Proto Man, also watches from afar, unnoticed by anyone.

STORY
In the year 20XX, the first annual "Robot Masters Tournament" is held. The tournament was designed to test the designing capabilities of the world's greatest engineers. Thus, engineers and programmers (and of course, spectators) from the world over gathered to participate in this event. The tournament was hosted by a man known only as "Mr X," who was one of the world's richest men and supposedly one of its greatest engineers.
Dr. Light, a pacifist, decided not to enter the tournament, but he took charge and did send Mega Man to go along and make sure that everything was safe for all the spectators and to discipline the Robot Masters. Many strong robots participated, and in the end, eight robots were victorious.
However, at the close of the tournament, Mr. X came to the podium and announced that he had reprogrammed the eight robots to do his bidding and that he had been manipulating the contestants all along. Furthermore, he was going to use his newly created army of robots, under command of the new Robot Masters to take over the world. Mega Man was immediately ordered by Dr. Light to put an end to the madness.
Dr. Light has upgraded Rush to be able to combine with Mega Man to form various adapters, such as "Jet Mega Man", who can fly/hover for a brief period of time, but can't use charge shots, and "Power Mega Man", who can punch huge blocks to destroy them, but has limited attack range.
Mega Man fought and defeated the tough Robot Masters, who were spread out all throughout the world, and then made his way to Mr. X's fortress. After battling his way through, he finally confronted the madman and defeated him. Mr. X removed his fake beard and revealed that he was none other than Dr. Wily. Wily had been posing as the multi-billionaire for an indeterminate amount of time, so it's safe to say that "Mr. X" either did not or no longer exists.
Wily fled to an all-new Skull Castle and Mega Man gave chase, fought his way through it, and defeated Dr. Wily in a final showdown. After the years of fighting, Dr. Wily was finally brought to justice and placed in prison with the proper authorities. As Wily can only quote, "rule over a prison cell," the world is finally at peace...for now.

STORY
In the year 20XX, thanks to the efforts of Mega Man and his friends, Dr. Wily was finally brought to justice after several years of battles, much to the delight of the world. The people breathed a long sigh of relief as the jail cell door on Wily's cell was shut, hopefully for good...
However, Wily had planned for just such an occasion. He had always known that one day, his plans might come to an end at Mega Man's hands, and so he had constructed four backup Robot Masters in a hidden lab. If they did not receive a communication from their master within six months, they would activate... and begin searching for their master.
After six months, the robots activate and carry out their intended function, going on a rampage through the city Dr. Wily was being held in and carving a path of destruction in their wake.
Mega Man, who had been enjoying the peace that Wily's captivity had brought, immediately catches wind of the situation and is called into action. Upon driving into the city, Mega Man, with Roll and Auto, sees that the city is in ruins. The road is too unstable to keep going, so Mega Man continues on foot and finds Dr. Light and Rush, who were both presumably already in the city when the attack began. Dr. Light calls his attention to the sight of the large prison in the distance as four small objects, Wily's Robot Masters, streak towards it. As they look on, the prison explodes, and Wily is freed. Mega Man gives chase, destroying many of Wily's troops until he meets Bass, a robot with capabilities much like Mega Man's own, and his robotic dog Treble. After a brief battle, Mega Man is informed that Bass and Treble are battling Wily as well. Bass then teleports away, leaving Mega Man still confused. Afterwards, Mega Man goes after the four Robot Masters and faces them while collecting the pieces to the new "Super Adapter" upgrade that are found in their domains.
After defeating the four (Cloud Man, Freeze Man, Burst Man and Junk Man), Dr. Light informs him that Wily has attacked the "Robot Masters' Museum". Mega Man sets out for it and defeats a clown-like robot called Mash in time to see Dr. Wily airlift Guts Man through a hole in the roof.
After returning to the lab, Dr. Light tells Mega Man that four more Robot Masters are tearing up the city, so he goes to defeat them as well. During his journey, he meets up with Proto Manwho wishes to see which of the two Dr. Light made stronger. Upon defeating Proto Man, Mega Man is given the "Proto Shield" item.
Shortly prior to facing Shade Man, Mega Man comes across a damaged Bass. Mega Man tells Bass to go to Dr. Light's laboratory for repairs.
Once all of the Robot Masters are defeated, Mega Man returns to the lab and finds it half-totaled. Dr. Light is fortunately unharmed, but he tells Mega Man that Bass is the culprit. Bass and Treble are apparently Dr. Wily's creations. Bass has ransacked the lab, taking a copy of the blueprints for Dr. Light's new upgrade, the Super Adapter, which is a combination of the Rush Jet Suit and Rush Power Suit from Mega Man 6 (Mega Man can get his own Super Adapter by collecting the R, U, S & H panels that are scattered throughout the first four levels.) Wily then comes on the damaged lab screen and taunts Mega Man.
Armed with new knowledge, eight robot master weapons, and the determination to bring an end to the conflict, Mega Man sets out for Dr. Wily's Skull Castle, where he fights his way through Dr. Wily's minions, including the reprogrammed Guts Man that Dr. Wily airlifted out of the robot master museum previously.
Eventually, Mega Man comes across Bass. Bass uses the Treble Boost, an upgrade Dr. Wily created for him out of Dr. Light's Super Adapter blueprints, to merge with Treble and give him more power and the ability to fly, much like the Super Adapter gives Mega Man. Despite the tipped odds, Mega Man defeats Bass.
Mega Man and Wily have a showdown, in which Mega Man is ultimately victorious. In the end, Wily begs for mercy as is routine by this time, but Mega Man walks over and aims his Mega Buster at Wily. This naturally scares Wily out of his wits, and he falls to the floor, slowly sliding back into the wall. Mega Man quietly ponders whether he should do what he says he should have done years ago. Wily reminds Mega Man that robots cannot harm humans.
Mega Man tells him that he is "more than a robot" and prepares to kill Dr. Wily (in the Japanese version, he simply stops and does nothing). At that moment, the fortress begins to collapse. A steel girder falls on Wily as the room begins to shake wildly, but Mega Man keeps his aim true. Before he can shoot, however, Treble beams in and warps out with Wily. Bass teleports in as well, and tells Mega Man that "He who hesitates is lost" and "we shall return." before teleporting back out.
Mega Man vacates the fortress and slowly walks away, alternating from blankness to fury as the credits roll and the fortress explodes behind him. He comes home, where Dr. Light, Rush, Beat, Auto, and Roll are all waiting for him.

STORY
In the year 20XX, two alien robots engage in a climactic battle in the depths of space, the ultimate outcome of which causes them both to plummet towards Earth, critically injured.
Meanwhile, Mega Man and Rush are battling their rivals Bass and Treble, when Dr. Light calls Mega Man to investigate strange energy readings on a nearby island. On the island, Mega Man finds Dr. Wily, flying away with a strange purple orb. Before chasing him, he sees a damaged robot and asks for Dr. Light to pick it up and try to repair it. Dr. Wily then releases 4 new Robot Masters to combat Mega Man. Each time he destroys one, he receives a purple orb like the one Dr. Wily had. Each of the Robot Masters are empowered with a new energy that is unlike any that Mega Man has faced yet, and it seems that this power comes from the new energy cores that Wily has enfused within them.
After Mega Man defeats all four, he returns to the lab and Dr. Light tells him that the robot he found should be fine if he rests for a while. Additionally, he tells him that the strange new energy cores that they have found contain great power and that they must not fall into the hands of evil. After Dr. Light and Mega Man leave the lab, the robot wakes up, sees the purple energy, becomes enraged, and flies off into the distance. Mega Man follows suit on Rush. Mega Man finds him in a mine shaft on the other side of the globe, and after battling the robot, Proto Man shows up and tells Mega Man that Dr. Wily's new fortress, "Wily Tower," is just ahead. Mega Man goes ahead, but is captured by one of Wily's giant robotic creations. The robot saves him, introduces himself as Duo, and explains what his purpose is. He then quickly dispatches the gigantic machine.
Duo then explains what the energy is, calling it "Evil Energy." He says he has been traveling the universe tracking down this energy and trying to destroy it. Moreover, he says that they must destroy it as soon as possible or it will engulf the entire world. However, "Wily Tower" has a barrier around it that prevent him from taking out the source. Duo tells Mega Man to destroy the four other Robot Masters that hold the key to the barrier while he collects and extinguishes the rest of the world's Evil Energy.
Once the Robot Masters have been defeated, "Wily Tower's" barrier is lifted and Mega Man makes his way through it, defeating the hordes of robotic henchmen inside, including Bass and Treble, and ultimately, the evil doctor himself.
In the end, the "Evil Energy" is destroyed before it is allowed to spread throughout the world, and Wily's newest compound is destroyed... with Mega Man inside, trapped by the Evil Energy. We later see Mega Man on an open field, knocked out. Duo arrives, examining Mega Man and determining that he's corrupted by the Evil Energy, and that it's killing him. He attempts to help Mega Man recover, searching his thoughts to see if his mind is taken over by the evil. Fortunately, it hasn't been taken completely, and Duo seemingly destroys the last of the Evil Energy on Earth. Leaving Mega Man in the care of Proto Man, Duo leaves Proto Man with a message to give him when he wakes up: "Thank you."
